Today is my birthday! My cake is looking more and more like a giant bonfire. How many candles are going to appear on my cake this year? To find out subtract 50 from 100, then subtract another 50, add 25, subtract 1 and then add 7. That equals??? Yikes!!

So here is a little birthday board inspiration… instead of eating cake off of plates, why not decorate with plates and eat out of your hands instead?? Scatter the tables with letterpress coasters representing each year of your life… Wear a big poufy party dress, tease your hair and wear a glittering birthday crown. Dangle bangles of teacups off of your wrist and decorate your cake with festive bunting!

Urban Crop: Brown Bagged Blooms

This is truly brilliance at it’s best, which most simple ideas are. Yes, the blooms are beautiful, and the simple packaging is fabulous, but Urban Crop is actually selling the soil! These brown bagged blooms have been popping up (no pun intended) in design magazines everywhere. The project involves selling tulips, hyacinths, irises and herbs from the back of a van in various locations across Melbourne.

The magical soil is a concoction made by Joost of Urban Crop himself. “Joost and business partner Renee Nutbean hope Urban Crop will demonstrate the value of organic compost rather than fertilized soil – which takes vast amounts of fossil fuel to produce and doesn’t make for healthy, happy plants. Urban Crop plants are full of energy and nutrients – not pumped full of fertilizer and water only to slump into a sad heap once you get them home. Urban Crop herbs will happily sit in your kitchen for a week or two, ready for you to harvest as you need them. Engagement Inspiration: Sweet Dreams

I am completely enamored by 18 year old aspiring fashion Photographer Simon Filip. I adore the effortless styling of the couple, the soft simplicity of the photos and the dreamy nature that emanates off of each one. The girl looks strikingly similar to Zooey Deschanel and the setting and styling provides the perfect inspiration for an engagement shoot.

Because of the lighting and magical quality of the glitter floating in the air above and the fluttering butterflies below, the shoot reminds me of having Sweet Dreams.

There would truly be no better or romantic way to end an engagement shoot than under the starry night in a glowing tent. Especially with both of your silhouettes emblazoned on the side in beautiful stark contrast against the dark sky.

I have gathered so much inspiration over the years, and just decided to take a peek into the past the other day. I felt like a design archaeologist, digging through files of lovely photos. I had forgotten about some of the wonderful things I had saved, and with each discovery I felt like I was uncovering and rediscovering so many fabulous photos. This garden photo shoot was one of the ‘King Tut’s’ I discovered in my dig. We are in the process of designing something very similar for a client and I was totally re-inspired by this fresh farm look. Perfect inspiration for a garden party wedding, a bridal shower or just a gathering of friends on a warm summer day.
