Inspiration to Creation: Parisian Circus (Pt. 3)

We have walked you through the design boards, all of the whimsical signage and graphics, the custom ABC circus invitations , and showcased Part I (the Pastel Parisian Patisserie) & Part II (the surrounding decor) of our Parisian Circus Soiree… Today we present the finale!

Lush tabletops of anemones, peonies, and ranunculus, resembling the Parisian gardens of the Champs-Élysees were set atop round ice blue Russian linens with caps emulating couture clown collars.

Black and white canopy striped napkins were layered with blush pink velvet ribbon and the tables were framed with transparent crystal Victoria ghost chairs.

Playing off of the baby ‘shower’, vintage umbrellas and Parisian parasols hovered over tables with strings of dripping crystals that refracted the blue uplighting and resembled raindrops.

A mixologist served sweet tea and strawberry drinks with pink flags that said ‘baby love, ooh my baby love’ from a bar covered with candelabras topped with blushing pink peonies.

Silver elephants balanced upon oversized floral balls white ceramic elephants guarded Evian bottles emblazoned with a Christian Lacroix print that were the guests take home gifts.

The entire evening had that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ that can only be expressed in the French language of love, and guests exclaimed that they felt truly transported to another place!”

Elegance, jeweled antiques, and vintage Barnum & Bailey were the major influences in our design. Inspired by the whimsy and eccentricity of an early 1900’s Parisian circus we wanted the shower to feel glamorous, whimsical, opulent and for guests to say ‘ooh la la’ upon entering! The guests were first greeted with the pastel Parisian Patisserie!

Inspired by big top tents, trapeze artists and French circus performers we had a stilt walker greeting guests at the door and waiters with clown couture costume makeup serving appetizers true to French Creole cuisine.

The “Carousel de la Tour Eiffel” photo op of a vintage ferris wheel with the Eiffel tower looming in the background was set up in the corner. The ladies were able to pose for photos with vintage parasols and the men posed with pastel bubble gum cigars in honor of baby Genevieve.

Surrounded by chipped bricks and loft like space, modern white belly bars topped with tall candelabras created a contemporary twist on a traditional French bistro. The walls were sprinkled with custom circus posters. No detail was left unturned, including the vintage circus signs on the bathroom doors, “the clowns” sign for the men and “the tightrope walkers” for the women.

Guests were enveloped in music from a DJ spinning beats in front of a large spinning ferris wheel mural that was situated behind him as a backdrop.

Inspiration to Creation: Parisian Circus (Pt. I)

Getting ready for our New Orleans Parisian Circus Soiree was no small feat, we prepared for the event with design boards, all of the whimsical signage and graphics, and sent out the custom ABC circus invitations to all of the guests.

Finally, in January we hopped on a plane to New Orleans to do the shower for a mommy-to-be with a baby girl along the way. The French soiree was co-ed and a celebration for both of the sophisticated and stylish parents.

We went with a pale pink, baby blue and onyx palette for baby Genevieve along with a Parisian circus vibe to play off of the French influence of New Orleans and to add a whimsical element.

The dessert table resembled a true Parisian patisserie with large spheres of popcorn balls on crystal cut glass cake stands, pastel treats in bowls, macaroons in pale palettes of pink, sherbert green, and lemon yellow. Rock candy in bright punch-pink and otter pop blues, cupcakes swirled with pastel frosting and old-fashioned stick candy with swirling stripes were labeled with custom pink tags and boldly striped ribbon.

The dessert was even served by a comical baker wearing a chefs hat to add to the topsy turvy circus feel!

After the design boards and invitations have been completed, the next part of bringing an event to life is all of the stationery details. To us Lolliladies, this is the element that really makes an event have the detail and custom factor we strive for. It is often one of the elements that really ‘wow’s the guests. For this Parisian baby shower, we thought that having whimsical circus posters strewn throughout the event would add to the festive feel..

We love having hidden stationery surprises around the event, and pay special attention to every catering tag, dessert tag, drink flag, favor tag, and sign. Each one is customized to the client which makes them feel extra special on their big day.

Inspiration to Creation: New Orleans Design Boards

When we were hired to coordinate and design an event in NOLA, we were ecstatic to draw off the French influences of the city. There are so many colorful and cultural inspirations to draw off of. Yesterday we shared photos of our fabulous time in the ‘Big Easy’ and today we share our design process that starts with design boards for our clients. We always give both clients and vendors a design board of each area so that we are all on the same page for the event.

The event was a baby shower celebration so we combined the French influence of NOLA with a new baby girl along the way. The perfect marriage of the two inspirations was a pink Parisian circus soiree. Our client loved the idea! We then presented her with multiple color palette options and she decided on French blue, pale pinks, buttercream yellow and black to add a bid of edge.

We then started sourcing our vendors. We wanted circus performers, perfect pastries, exquisite New Orleans French Creole fare, a brilliant mixologist, and fabulous florist. We also knew that the venue location and music would be extremely important to maintain the festive vibe of the fete.

Guests would be treated to an overflowing Parisian Patisserie, games, a photo-op and custom cocktails from Strawberry Sweet Teas to new twists on mojitos!

Inspiration to Creation: Royal Affair Bridal Shower

From the inspiration, Prince Charming came into mind when we thought about the special groom-to-be, so only a Royal Affair was appropriate for this luxurious bridal shower. Inspired by the backdrop of the gorgeous ocean view, shades of blues ranging from cobalt and aqua to teal were blended with warm amber glassware, silver and gold for a truly opulent effect.

The Tablescape: Crystals glistened in the sunlight hanging off of tiered cupcake stands that were used in lieu of vases. Each cupcake tier was topped of with a single white mum. Flower balls created out of clusters of various flowers including spider mums, garden roses, lisianthus and daisies were displayed on tall elegant glass vases. For additional interest and warmth blossoming prairie stems were clustered with spider mums in teal Portuguese glassware and amber bud vases, while the Queen’s royal ceramic horses stood guard on each end. To top off the level of luxury, oversized cobalt crystal diamonds were scattered atop the table.

Handmade Nepalese navy, teal and gold printed papers were lined with gold and aqua ribbons to create custom runners and napkin rings for each place setting while name tags in the same custom shape as the invitation were tied onto the backs of each chair.

The Mimosa Bar: Buckets of champagne and sparkling Italian sodas were served in hand blown blue champagne flutes accompanied by an array of juices such as blueberry (to match the party palette), pomegranate, and classic orange.

The Dessert Bar: Sweet confections in shades of blues accented with gold, silver and white danced atop vintage mirrored trays, lead cut crystal candy dishes and gold risers. Scrumptious vanilla cake pops were made with aqua frosting and topped with candy pearls alongside aqua colored blueberry cake pops with vanilla frosting and aqua sprinkles. As a fun dessert centerpiece we created a jumbo cupcake topped with the initials of the bride-to-be, Prince Charming had never looked so sweet!

Vera Wang + Missoni Inspired Table = Stunning

When we arrived at the Unveiled LA bridal show, we saw this show-stopping new Vera Wang gown from the Spring 2010 Collection. From the draping of the gown to the soft hues, everything looked stunning with our Missoni inspired table. We could only imagine a room full of these glamorous tables, with the bride elegantly floating along in this gown. Vera Wang, we would like to introduce you to Missoni. We think you make a lovely couple.

The stunning Swarovski details of the gown looked glorious with the accented invite and cake. We are enchanted with the entire collection of gowns from Vera Wang’s Fall 2009 & Spring 2010 , and how flawlessly the all seem to fuze with our tablescape design. The pale purple sashes reflect so elegantly with the light gray print on the fabric and the lovely lavender flowers. The fabric of the stunning beige gowns, seem to flow right into the chiffon draping from the napking treatments on the tabletop.

Inspiration to Creation: Inspired by Missoni

Along with a plethora of talented vendors we showcased our work at the Unveiled show on Melrose Place in Los Angeles. We collaborated with Isari Flower Studio to bring our Missoni inspired table concept from the inspiration to creation. The trademark zigzag print of Missoni, along with it’s textured fabrics served as the main palette for our tablescape.

We first started with a fabric in shades of peaches, greys, and rust. We wanted the flowers to match the soft flow of the fabric, by winding down the table and gradiating from one color to another. The place settings were each set on a small cake stand for height, the chiffon fabric and velvet ribbon treatment draped over the edges for added drama.

We placed flowers in pots and turned them onto their sides, and placed them onto a copper garden stand so that the gradiating floral effect could be seen from another view.

Because we were bringing the runway to the tabletop we accessorized the napkins. We layered them with the same zigzag fabric in a chiffon version, velvet ribbons, copper chains (to resemble jewelry) and mother of pearl accents.

The accessorizing did not stop at the copper necklaces on the napkin treatments. Sweet & Saucy Shop accessorized the cake with copper jeweled accents, the bouquet was accessorized with copper wire and we also accessorized the laser cut invitation with mother of pearl and a necklace!

The laser cut invitation with jeweled accents matched the menu and emulated the shape of the plate. The dark brown accents were a rich contrast against the softer palette of the tablescape. The large anenome on the cake matched the lovely anenomes in the bridal bouquet. From the runway to the table we were inspired by Missoni.

Bloggers Unite: Lollipop to attend the B-List!!

Even though we are still under a year old, barely a toddler, we have been growing and learning and reaching at head dizzying speeds and what a fantastic year it has been! We have been so fortunate to meet so many other great designers and bloggers in the wedding industry that have welcomed us into the community with open arms. We love to attend events where we can learn from others and grow so we’re able to pass even more valuable and delicious design advice onto you, our readers. When we learned we were invited to the exclusive B-List Bloggers Conference we were beyond flattered!

Voyage of Love Part II

The dining table was reminiscent of a fine dining room on an old cruise ship with a tall candelabra perched in the center. The table linen was adorned with silver calligraphy that displayed famous love poems written in French, Spanish, and Italian.

Moroccan goblets were tied with tags that read ‘cheers’ in six different languages. Cheers, Salude, Kampai and Prost were just some of the international reminders to sip and be merry! Blue Italian dinnerware with multiple patterns was set upon a white French inspired table and surrounded by blue anemones that had a lavender glow.

The menus were designed for a time when dressing up for fine dining was part of the opulence of a stately dinner, and when food was taken as an art form not to be rushed. They were titled with ‘a night afloat on a wonder boat’. The actual menu of the titanic was incorporated and each course was labeled with ‘Bon Appetite’ in multiple languages from French to Japanese on top of a topographical map for added texture
