We always love seeing inspiration to creation, especially when the inspiration comes from the runways. Here are some couture cakes designed by some of our favorite fashion designers.
Tracy Reese is “adored for her feminine silhouettes and touchable textures, the N.Y.C. designer dreamed up this three-tier culinary masterpiece, inspired by a frothy watercolor-print dress, dubbed Pastel Garden with Flower, from her collection.” via In Style Weddings. The dress is a Pastel garden with flowers applique frock from Tracy Reese, Spring 2009 at Fashion Week.
Rene Caovilla was inspired by his shoe spring collection when he designed his couture confection with cake designer, Margaret Braun. “I was looking for a way to combine electric colors from the outdoors with an old-world setting,” says Caovilla, via In Style Weddings.

Can you see the similarties between Betsey Johnson’s 2009 spring collection and her ruffled cake by Colette’s Cakes? The dress on the left looks very similar to the tantalizing topper!
We have said it before and we will say it again…when planning your wedding look for inspiration in all places. Look to the colors and patterns of your favorite blanket, the pleating on your most flattering sundress, or even to your favorite fashion designer. Maybe you can’t afford that $15,000 couture dress, but you can still have elements of that Swarovski jewel encrusted bodice on your cake!
