This week is off to a delicious start and we’re bringing you even more gorgeous eye candy to drool over. Today’s delectable delights are brought to you via the wonder team that is Our Labor of Love. This ultra creative married duo had the pleasure of shooting the wedding of Stephanie & Wil, a ridiculously cool pair of overachieving Do-It-Yourself’ers in the wedding department. We love Stephanie’s “Jean Harlow meets southern belle vibe.” The glamorous black rose in her hair is just the icing on the cake!
Stephanie was kind enough to share a plethora of details with us….
“We are ecstatic about the pics we have seen- Whitney & Jesse were incredible to work with, we knew after the initial consultation with them that they ‘got us’… and they would definitely capture how amazingly ’sweet’ the day would be. As far as the overall design concept- it definitely started with the idea that I wanted a pink dress- I had seen this beautiful pink Vera Wang bridesmaid dress with a giant bow at the top in a magazine, and I immediately knew that dress had my name all over it. Unfortunately, the price tag did not… I ended up finding a dress maker on ebay, sent them a photo of the dress I wanted and asked if they could do something similar… and ta-da! I ended up having to get it altered, but overall- I only spent $300 on the knock off.”
“I literally NEVER walked into a bridal shop- and having saved on that dress meant that I could also afford a fun reception dress that allowed me to dance the night away! I found a white eyelet Betsey Johnson dress that perfectly fit the fun, playfulness of the reception.”
“The wedding itself was completely DIY with the exception of the dinner catering. Wil is a senior baker at a local bakery and I’ve been in fashion merchandising for what seems like a million years- so I felt that we could do most of it ourselves- with a little help from our wonderful friends.”
“We LOVE all things sweet (we spent our first date baking cupcakes at my house) and we wanted that passion for confections reflected in our special day. Wil made the entire dessert bar. He spent the final days before our wedding baking like a madman! He made french macaroons, cookie truffles, cupcakes, candied apples, and on top of that…the wedding cake! I made the invitations, the programs, designed the candy bar, made the corsages & boutonniere’s and all of the floral arrangements & bouquets. You can pretty much say we put our blood, sweat and tears into every little detail.”
“Since the dress was going to be pink, the rest of the wedding obviously had to be coordinated around it. We decided that grey would be a nice contrast and also keep things modern. The guys got suits from Express and we opted for the groomsmen to be jacket- less, since it was still pretty warm in Alabama in September (they appreciated it for sure!) We got the bridesmaids black convertible jersey dresses- that way each bridesmaid could wear the dress in the way that flattered her the most.”
“I must be a masochist, because after all of the things we had signed on to do ourselves, I also wanted to incorporate a “surprise dance” into our first dance. One of my bridesmaids and I choreographed a partner dance that would interrupt the traditional first dance. We spent the night before the ceremony with several of the bridesmaids and groomsmen teaching them the moves! It was hysterical to see these grown men try so hard, and I couldn’t get over how incredible it was that they would risk looking completely ridiculous for our special moment!! Here is a link to it if you are curious…”
“When I met Wil I knew I there would never be another dull moment, we have so much fun together and truly enjoy all of the little things life has to offer. We have been so blessed and we could not have asked for a more perfect wedding day. We are even working on starting our own event planning company here in Alabama… I mean, we figure if we had this much fun with the stress of it being our own wedding- the sky is pretty much the limit!”
