We saw a single shot of Carina and Trevor’s wedding from one of our favorite Irish designers, Bonzie and instantly wanted to see more! Carina designs lovely and opulent vampire-esque jewelry, her gothic style and the couples heritage truly shone through on her lovely Narnia inspired wedding day. We love the ‘True Blood’ moody vibe of their brilliant day and are just as in love with Carina’s Ethereal Creations

“Our theme was British medieval elegance, with black and red as our colour palette. We love rich, warm, dark colours – it was a lovely contrast to the snow outside – the golf club was dark woods, roaring fires and a warm atmosphere.”

“I handmade all of the bouquets using silk flowers and feathers. These were inspired by the royal Tudor courts of England and the numerous ostrich feather decorations I have seen throughout the ancient castles of Europe. My bridal bouquet featured a medley of ivory silk roses, surrouned by rich ostrich plumes and tied with an elegant tapestry ribbon, while the bridesmaids had dramatic bouquets of jet black silk roses, plumes of curled feathers adn hints of dark red silk flowers – these were hand tied in my clan tartan.”

“Neither of us were that interested in using real flowers for our wedding and there are tons of incredible alternatives when it comes to bouquets, accessories, etc. Instead of a boutonniere Trevor wore a silver Scottish kilt pin which featured a long silver sword.”

“The tables featured silk roses sitting in sand with tiny flecks of gold in it, illuminated by candles. The head table was draped with roses, red baroque fabrics and medieval crosses.”

“The tables were named after castles and because we had so many “Mcs” “Macs” and others with Scottish ancestry, I was able to name tables after the ancient seats of people at those tables. Beautiful calligraphy printed on parchment paper declared the contents of the ‘feast’ to our guests (again, we decided to go uniqe and feature Canadian food for our large contingent of guests from the UK, so we had bbq bison ribs from a local ranch, and fresh halibut flown in from the East Coast).”

“After going straight to the pub following the ceremony with our bridal party, we ventured outside into the snow for a Narnia style photo shoot which was incredible and then went to an old turn of the century hotel downtown with stunning interiors for a photo shoot that had a royal, elegant feel to it.”

“I wore a very dramatic dress by Maggie Sotterro called the Lavina Royale which was something out of Marie Antoinette. The stunning ballgown needed and extra touch so I had an independent Irish designer, Bonzie design a medieval high-necked bolero for me – it lent a regal and dramatic look to my dress and kept me warm on that snowy winter day. It was a brisk 20 degrees centigrade outside!”

“I didn’t want to go too renaissance faire, so I was careful to add subtle medieval themes (I couldn’t imagine my 6′9″ husband running around in spandex leggings!) I wore a braid through the top of my hair and a beautiful diamond and white gold medieval cross, given to me by my mum the morning of the wedding and then my earrings were from my own jewelry line, Ethereal Creation which is inspired by medieval and tudor times but updated with a contemporary feel.”

“All of my bridesmaids wore black and red feather fascinators which were handmade by myself and along with our British guests, many of our Canadian guests wore fascinators (feathered headpieces worn by women at formal British events). In keeping with our rich red and black theme, many guests coordinated their outfits which was a total surprise – it was a very elegant wedding!”

“Myself and Trevor’s greatest passion is to travel the world. We got engaged in a story-book setting. In 2007 we were in the Arabian desert in the United Arab Emirates. The sun was setting over the mountains and the entire desert seemed to glow with fire, and it was at that moment Trev asked me to marry him. It was a huge surprise at the reception when several of my friends from the bellydance community performed a beautiful veil dance to add and Arabian touch to the night.”

“I’m not a fan of pink, tulle or traditional wedding themes. So, to cut our chocolate wedding cake (home made by my Mum – delicious!) we cout our cake with a medieval sword. I recommend this for any bride. That was fantastic!”

The bride’s dress is gorgeous! I love the feather bouquet, but the couple’s idea to use a sword pin instead of a boutonniere was genius…the guys must have appreciated that instead of the usual flower =)

Thanks for featuring our wedding, we were really quite honoured to be asked! :0)

As for the feather bouquet, it was so much fun to make that I may be launching a line of them in my Etsy store, Ethereal Creation – so keep posted!
