We continue to be inspired by editorials in high fashion magazines, especially the spreads shot by fashion photographer Tim Walker. “London based photographer Tim Walker has established himself at the cutting edge of fashion photography. His images capture a sublime moment in time, evoking a sense of epic drama and beauty. Stunning sets and lavish locations juxtapose the everyday with the absurd and the fabulous, to create captivating, original photographs.” via Design Museum

We would love to bring the dreamy and lavish feel of these ‘Swan Lake’ couture photos by Tim Walker to a wedding. We are inspired to recreate it with romantic yet traditional tulle ball gowns layered with ruffles, ballerina bridesmaids, sparkling swarovski crystals, layers of dramatically draped fabric, and palette of creams, ivory, and shades of ice blue.

swan lake inspirationTo obtain this sensationally sparkling affair inspired by Tim Walker’s photos we would start with a ‘Winter Breeze fantasy cake’ layered with textured ruffles (YWD). Round toe ballerina-esque shoes (Rebecca Thuss) would be perfectly peeking out from underneath a tulle ball gown or a posh plumage wedding dress (Demitrios Bride & Jenny Lee Bridal) paired with sheer ruffled cuff tulle gloves and a  tulle fingertip veil. Tables would be set in shades of ice blue and ivory (kiss the groom) and topped with ceramic swan planters. A lush floral arch of blue heirloom hydrangeas and million star gyspophila would frame the entrance to the reception site (via brides.com )

Fabulous Idea: Instead of traditional bouquets give your bridesmaids glam clutches made out of florals and foliage (via YWD)

oscar de la renta hair

We were also inspired by the runways of New York when Oscar de la Renta sent his models out in show-stopping hair. Braids crowned their heads with fabric woven throughout them. We would love to see this dreamy fashion-forward yet simple look worn by a bride! We can just imagine glossy braids woven with vintage lace for a “something old” which would be the perfect addition to this brilliantly ballet inspired fete.

We were over the moon when we heard from Your Wedding Day Magazine that we were going to be featured as their top 25 wedding blogs! In addition to that honor, we were 1 out of 12 that got a specific write up.  Not only is YWD an amazingly fashion forward magazine (and blog!) that we swoon over but to be mentioned along side such blogs as Green Wedding Shoes, Style Unveiled and The Brides Cafe is SUCH an honor! I mean honestly, we are still only in infancy and being recognized for all of our hard work really makes it all worth it.

Now excuse us as we clip out the article, paste it on our foreheads and walk around town proudly displaying it to anyone who will glance my way…

We are inspired by so many things from old vintage beauty ads and vinyl record albums to eclectic window displays in small antique shops. This week we are going to show how we draw off of high-fashion for design inspirations and how the pages of fashion magazines and the runways of NY and London can be transformed into sensational tablescapes.

Harper’s Baazar just featured a hauntingly beautiful spread of Tim Burton mixed with magical fashion. “In anticipation of his retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, filmaker Tim Burton reimagines the season’s dark delights.” Tim Burton took high-fashion designs such as Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Nina  Ricci and other couture looks to a whole new eerily captivating level.

timburtonHere is our take on infusing a bit of Tim Burton’s photo shoot into your own Halloween and festive fall functions. Tim Burton is known for his gothic expressionism and sharp contrasts between dark and bizarre visual styling.

tablescape halloween

Tim Burton inspired DIY decor: Hang gothic vellum lanterns, arrange spooky Halloween bouquets, design Pumpkin baskets with overflowing flowers, add sparkle and twinkle to your October night with Celestial Pumpkin Lanterns, seat your guests at a Poetic pumpkin tablescape, and top tables with Gothic pumpkin centerpieces. Finally, add vintage halloween decor touches with masks and round pumpkin faces.

pumpkinDIY Pumpkin Carving: Channel Tim Burton’s love of dark and light with black and white painted pumpkins (instructions here), and replicate old china patterns onto your pumpkin for hauntingly glam effect (bottom right).

Recipes: Don’t stop at the decor. These visually delightful and delectable treats are sure to impress. Along Came a Spider Cake Recipe, Spiderweb Cupcakes, Caramel Apples

To continue our ‘around the world week’, we are breaking up our ‘real wedding’ features to invite you to Shop with Lollipop on our trip around the world. We will first take you to current the runways of New York Spring 2010 collections, then on to shop for vintage couture gowns and next we will shop for an eclectic mixture of  flea market finds from around the world. Finally, we will stop by an Australian bridal gown shop whose label is synonymous with using French fabrics. Not only will we travel around the world but we will shop throughout the eras!

fashionrunwayWe scoured the Spring 2010 collections again, and these designer gowns stood out amongst the runways of New York. (See our favorites from last week, here) Top row: Badgley Mischka Row 2: New York -Reem Acra Row 3 & 4: J. Mendel Row 5: Chado Ralph Rucci Row 6:  Carolina Herrera

Now, lets leave NY and go back in time a bit while we shop for vintage gowns made by designers from around the world at The Frock.  Did you know that Dior and Balmain are from France? Oscar de La Renta was born in theDominican Republic, Georgio Armani is from Italy, Balenciaga was born in Spain and Lanvin was founded in Paris,! Notice some similarties between these gowns from decades past and the current NY runways. (Black & gold, ruching, the 40’s and the 80’s were strongly present at the Spring 2010 shows)

The eighties are making a comeback and what better way to represent the big shoulder era than by wearing a vintage couture gown by Oscar de La Renta.

fashionfrock-eightiesTimeless fashion frocks from the fifties…

fashionfrockfifitiesDare to be different and bold with a Couture Balmain fantasy ballgown circa 1965, an ostrich and beaded satin gown circa the 30’s, a Balenciaga shimmering silver slipper gown, a feminine floral tulle gown in a soft shade of pink by Dior, a bold red Armani gown with organza ruffles, or even a vintage Scaasi black rufled organdy ballgown. The NY runway shows were ablaze with frilly frocks and gowns in bright colors. Black dresses also made as strong appearance at the Spring Shows, we are swooning over the Spring 2010 black Badgley Mischka gown above and the vintage black Scaasi ballgown below.

fashionfrockboldOur next stop is FrenchBlue & Co. Two sisters who travel and collect unique pieces from around the globe, such as antiques from France or even mid-century modern pieces. Their finds are gathered from visits to the French markets in Paris to west coast flea markets and even Beverly Hills estates.

Now lets end our trip in Australia to visit the gown shop of Rose & Ruby. “The signature of the label is French laces woven together with the finest French tulles and pure silks.” We hope you enjoyed shopping around the world and throughout the eras with the Lolliladies.
