Inspired by…. Summer Camp
Filed Under Food and Drinks, Weddings
Today we are inspired by the sweet memories of summer camp… potato sack races, loudly singing camp songs, telling scary stories, acting out silly skits, canoes, crafts, rafts, sleeping bags, jumping off docks, bunk beds, archery, and skipping rocks on the lake. Why not bring back and incorporate these memories into your wedding day? Give your guests updated “care packages” upon arrival containing trailmix, flashlight favors, and even jars to catch fireflies!
All the images, product resources, and ideas above are from Country Living. They would all easily translate into a unique & festive camp-out wedding!
1. Throw whimsical & floral patterned Cath Kidston tents around the campground with brightly colored sleeping bags for guests to lounge on
2. Hang rustic lake/fishing inspired plaques & signs around the campsite
3. Serve food on bright earthenware bowls with canoe and tree illustrations
4. Keep a pile of warm fleecy blankets easily accessible for guests to snuggle under
5. String retro dish towels onto a clothing line to create fun & festive decor
Now for some real life campground weddings…
Real Campground Wedding #1: Yuki & Keith; Photography by Robert Sukrachand
Location: Beaver Del Hotel & Campground in Upstate New York
Details We Adore: The couple had a giant “cookie table”, there were more than 1,000 handmade paper cranes, they served delicious food, there was a roaring fire for guests to sit around, children were running around and climbing trees, pictures of the couple were displayed in a fishing net that said ‘Great Catch’ and finally… it was at a campground!
Real Campground Wedding #2: Susan & Scheffer; Photography: Gertrude & Mabel (via Rock n’ Roll Bride)
Location: A property outside the town of Mariposa (close to Yosemite)
Details We Adore: There were strings of flowers throughout the trees, manzanita branch chandeliers hung over the dining area, there were flame burning flower sculptures surrounding the pool, a popcorn machine, pool toys, hay bales, low wooden “lounge areas”, and the bride wore a soft pink wedding dress. There was also a “honeymoon tent” that the couple stayed in on the night of the wedding, guests camped out for the entire weekend, and finally… it was at a campground!
Real Campground Wedding #3: Dan & Laura; Photography: Ian Grant (Via Rock n’ Roll Bride)
Location: Camp Augusta, outside of Nevada City
Details We Adore: The simplicity of the natural setting, the fact the camp opened its rope swing and zip line for guests to enjoy, the guests pitched in to create bouquets & centerpieces with locally grown flowers, the bride wore a handmade 100& hemp dress while the groom wore a checkered 70’s jacket. The ceremony was held at the campground while the grooms brother sang and poems were read, guests lounged around the campfire until sunrise, and finally… it was at a campground!
More ideas to incorporate into a true Camp-Out Wedding! Serve burgers and beer true BBQ style, or simply hire an In-N-Out Trailer to drive up and serve your hungry guests! Put the fries in swanky acrylic cones to jazz up the presentation. If you want to “dress up” your campfire affair, elegantly display a variety of gourmet cheeses and wine on tree trunk pedestals and wooden baskets.

And even s’more fun ideas!:
1. Give your guests jazzed up s’mores made with Belgian Vanilla Cocoa and mixed with pink & white marshmallows, handmade and gift wrapped by SugarMohawk
2. Serve up a homemade cake covered in chocolate cookies smeared with white icing and rainbow sprinkles via Real Simple
3. Your guests may feel grungy after camping so give them handmade beer soaps by A Breath of French Air

Wow, I just saw this today for the 1st time. My wedding is going to be a camping wedding! I was so excited to see these for some additional ideas, although mine is very remote so I guess mine could be considered an extreme camping wedding! As in no electricity! Campfires, candles and lanterns only
